We are a family owned and run business based in Wilmslow, Cheshire offering boarding for cats, dogs and small animals, dog grooming, dog spa, onsite pet shop. We also have an online shop containing a carefully selected range of high quality pet foods. This provides you with the convenience of ordering online and we’ll deliver to your doorstep.
Our philosophy is to treat your pet just how you would – with care and affection. We ensure we learn as much about your pet as possible, before they come to stay at Newgate.
Over the last 50 years Newgate Kennels and Cattery have grown from one employee, the founder Jess Millett, to a workforce of over 30 employees.
General Manager
To allow you to find out more about how Newgate has progressed over the years we have compiled a timeline of the most significant events throughout our history.
Mr Rolfe Millett (due to ill health) stepped down as manager, leaving Joel Millett in sole charge of the day to day running. New and replacement kennel blocks were built (Arley, Gawsworth and Tatton).
On October 9th, Mrs Jess Millett (founder) died at the age of 96. The Kennels and Cattery will continue to trade as a limited company.
Planning approval was finally granted (after a two year process!) for the replacement of four kennel blocks (48 kennels), two catteries (17 chalets), two staff rooms, small animal room and trimming room. Work started in October.
General Manager
I first started working at Newgate in 1994. Throughout this time I have gained 6 NVQs. I recently completed my Sales and Marketing NVQ and look forward to applying this knowledge in improving our sales area. I enjoy working at the kennels as it has a friendly and caring atmosphere. My extra managerial responsibilities include the sales area, staff training and work experience students. In my spare time I like watching sports and I am waiting for Liverpool FC to win the premiership (again)! I also enjoy spending time with my family and looking after Jasper my Amazon Green Parrot.
Training and Development Manager
I have been working at Newgate, Full time, since 2007. In this time I have completed 6 NVQs, the latest one being a Level 4 Management NVQ. Along with assisting the resident builder with maintenance and building projects, my role as training and development manager means I help my colleagues work to the high levels of animal care we instill here at Newgate. I play Ice hockey in my spare time and support Arsenal FC.
Back of House
I started working at Newgate Kennels in November 2008. I enjoy working here and taking care of different animals. When I’m not taking care of the animals I am helping out with maintenance/ building work. At the moment I don’t have any pets, but I would like to have either a pug or a bichon as they are my favourite breeds. In my spare time I like watching different types of sports, especially football and I’m a big Manchester United fan!
Back of House/ Kennel Assistant
I joined Newgate Kennels at the start of 2015, since then I have achieved my NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care. My favourite animals are dogs particularly Golden Retrievers, probably because I grew up with a pair. My favourite part of working here is walking all of our four legged friends.

I have worked at Newgate Kennels since 2004. Since then I have achieved my NVQ in Animal Care. The reason I enjoy working here so much is that I get to see all the different breeds and to be able to look after them. My favourite breed is the Border Collie. In my spare time I enjoy playing and watching football and also playing on the computer especially Facebook. I am also a part-time DJ!

I enjoy working at Newgate Kennels because I love working with different types of animals. My favourite dog is a Cockapoo. I have one at home called Amber as well as two cats called Friday and Nutmeg. I have been working at Newgate Kennels since September 2006. I have achieved a BTEC National Diploma in sports. I love playing squash and football as well as watching football.

I started working at Newgate Kennels part time in 2018 and started working full time in 2021 on an apprenticeship. I have since completed my apprenticeship and gained my NVQ level 2 in Animal Care and Welfare. I really love working here, every day is a good day.

I started working at Newgate in 2017 after doing my work experience. Since then, I have achieved an NVQ in Animal Management. My favourite breed of dog is a miniature Dachshund. I have 2 dogs at home, Lola the Jack Russell and Dolly the Mini Dachshund.

I really enjoy working at Newgate Kennels as I’m a huge dog lover! I’ve been working at Newgate since April 2022. I have my won dog called Rupert which is a mix between a Labrador and a Rottweiler.

I started at Newgate Kennels in March 2019 and since then I have loved taking care of all the animals that came to us. I especially love bathing and drying the dogs that come to the spa seeing them leave fluffy and smart. My favourite breeds are Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Lurchers, also German Shepherds and other big breed dogs. I have a lurcher of my own called Denzil and I spend all of my free time trying to get him to behave himself

Hi I am Bracken but please let me introduce you to Helen. She has worked here since 2018 and loves looking after me and all my 4 legged friends. She is always singing (but not really in tune)! And makes sure we are all cared for. She tells me she likes to watch Netflix and relaxes with the odd glass of something chilled.

I love working at Newgate Kennels as I have a passion for dogs as I have grown up with them all my life. I began working at Newgate Kennels early 2015 and have learnt so much. My favourite breed is the Great Dane and St Bernard. I currently have a black Cockapoo called Ozzy who I adore. My hobbies mainly revolve around sports including hockey and tennis, however I also have a passion for textile design.

My hobbies are reading and going for walks. I have been passionate about animals from a young age and love my job at Newgate.
